The Global Product Strategy (GPS) is an initiative developed by the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA), and builds on the product stewardship elements of the voluntary Responsible Care® initiative. The GPS aims to improve the safe management of chemicals, harmonise approaches between developing, emerging and industrialised regions, and strengthen public confidence that chemical products are handled safely at all stages of the life cycle. Furthermore it aims at providing a greater transparency, by helping companies provide stakeholders with information about marketed chemicals in an easily understandable format: the GPS Safety Summary.
Roche fully supports the GPS initiative, the principles of the ICCA and actively promotes the Responsible Care® initiative within the company, striving for the continuous improvement of SHE performance. Moreover, Roche goes beyond the GPS Safety Summary by actively publishing safety data sheets that inform stakeholders, like the professionals that use chemicals produced by Roche. For the consumer, we assure the safe use of our end products by providing easy-to-understand product leaflets for pharmaceuticals and instructions for diagnostic equipment. Roche safety data sheets provide all necessary information on the company’s chemical products to help users make risk assessments. The safety data sheets describe in detail the hazards a chemical presents and give information on handling, storage and emergency measures in case of accident.
